Movements is a video performance, filmed in a black box, without an audience. In the video we see four people working in focused silence with something, an object situated on the floor outside the picture. Moving in a small area, they get close to yet does not touch each other. At first, their movements are tentative and playful, then they become increasingly focused, intense and synchronized, and eventually, they turn mechanical, aimless, and exhausted. Movements examines how the repetitive work of collectively processing a resistance-bidding material can lead the individual participants to transcend themselves – partly by absorption into the rhythms of collective labor – and partly by exhaustion, leaving the body to its own operations and directing consciousness inwards, away from bodily experience.
Rörelser är en videoperformance inspelad i ett svart rum, utan publik. I videon ses fyra personer arbeta koncentrerat under tystnad med ett objekt som befinner sig på golvet utanför bild. De rör sig på liten yta, tätt inpå varandra men utan att röra varandra. Först är rörelserna prövande och lekande, sedan alltmer fokuserade, intensiva och synkroniserade, till slut mekaniska, intentionslösa och utmattade. Rörelser undersöker hur det repetitiva arbetet med att gemensamt bearbeta ett motståndsbjudande material kan leda de individuella deltagarna att överskrida sig själva, dels genom att gå upp i det kollektiva arbetets rytm, dels genom att i utmattningen lämna kroppen åt sin egen verksamhet och rikta medvetandet inåt, bort från den kroppsliga erfarenheten.
